154The article provides some interpretative paths of the most recently published weberian critique, which, as regards ancient and medieval history and the history of law, traces innovative research routes within Weber's "oeuvre". The essential feature that emerges from these interpretations is the focus on the link between Weberian sociology of politics and law with the theme of western rationalization and of its specificity. As a result, the Weberian line of argument considers the Western Middle Ages as the constitutive condition of Modernity, although never completely neutralized in it. According to this interpretation, Weber was more interested in the decisive antinomies of Modernity and of "Rationalisierung", rather than in the solidity of his own project.
