Every definition of evil is nowadays a recostruction of unintentional evil. Starting from the classical problem of theodicy and philosophy of history - such as the theological legitimation of wars in the "just war" tradition -, this essay has its focus in the unexpected consequences of human action as a necessary framework to understand the relationship between freedom and evil. The complexity of modern individual proves to be the background of a world in which the old platform of subjective rights has lost its significance: where there is no clear boundary between evil and good, it is difficult to ascribe rights to definited subjects.
