The historiography on the end of Ottoman Empire is not very well known in Italy. This essay takes into account the main contributions of Turkish and European authors on that subject. The author deals with all the periods of Turkish history, up to the dissolution of the Empire: the reign of Abd'hul Hamid (1876/1918), as a reactionary attempt to restore the traditional power of the Sultanate; the revolution of the Young Turks, reacting to the decadence of the Empire through the struggle of Enver Pasha against the religious character of that power; the reign of Sultan Reshad (Mehmet V); and the First World War. The essay is particularly focused on the works of young Turkish authors, unknown or unrecognized in Europe.
