By analyzing judicial sources and notary acts, the author discusses the taste and lure of classical sculptures in seventeenth-century Genoa. The interest in classical statuary was related to the financial world and to the Genoese aristocracy obligations toward the king of Spain Philip IV. In Genoa, the dissemination and dispersal of the statues excavated in Rome was linked to the rise and decline of the different families of the aristocracy.
