The contribution aims at providing new elements of analysis on the cooperative strategy put into practice by Istituto per la ricostruzione industriale (Iri) in the context of the relations established with the developing countries, from the beginning of the Sixties to early Seventies of the Twentieth Century. In this period some of the most representative aspects of the role played by Italy of the economic rebirth as a partner of the new independent nations emerged, to which the country proposed itself as a model of struggle against backwardness and State intervention for development. The essay deals with Iri’s growing interest towards the emerging markets, both for the supply of raw materials and as possible end markets for its companies operating in the manufacturing sector. Specific attention is paid at the initiatives implemented by Iri in the field of professional education of technicians coming from the emerging countries, privileged instrument of dialogue and collaboration in the context of the industrial relations with the developing nations
