THE ENHANCEMENT OF CULTURAL HERITAGE IN SICILY FOR THEIR ACTIVATION. THE CASE OF THE LUIGI PIRANDELLO BIRTH HOUSE MUSEUM. - The cultural heritage, which is one of the factors that determines the identity of Sicily, is also a strength in promoting the economic development of the region. There are countless strategies that can be used to enhance cultural tourism using this heritage. According to the laws of the Economy of Culture, the development of this type of tourism establishes a process capable of producing positive externalities in terms of income and employment. In this section, in a first part a comparative analysis over time of the activation levels of some Sicilian cultural sites will be presented. The analysis will be done using a particular tool defined “Sustainability Rating” to understand the capacity of cultural sites’ activation in term of economic resources for self-supporting over time; in a second part, exploiting the results of this analysis, a case study on the Luigi Pirandello Birthplace Museum will be investigated, examining its growth dynamics and investigating on its reasons.
