AbstractTotnes (Devon, South West England) has been world famous since the Transition Town Totnes (TTT) movement was started in 2006 by Rob Hopkins. Starting from the principles of permaculture and non-dependence on the oil economy, he proposes "a new vision of urban living". This project focuses on the relocation of the economy within the city, in order to bring about regenerative development and ensure resilience. Based on a questionnaire, interviews and participant observation, this article intends to question the consequences in social and spatial terms of the appearance of this project in a small tourist town. The modes of governance of this project are thus questioned, in particular in terms of citizen participation, and the consequences in terms of gentrification and opposition of social categories in a close spatial distance. Totnes (Devon, Sud-Ouest de l’Angleterre) est mondialement connue depuis que le mouvement Transition Town Totnes (TTT) a été monté en 2006 par Rob Hopkins. En partant des principes de la permaculture et de non-dépendance à l’économie pétrolière, il propose « a new vision of urban living ». Ce projet s’attache à la relocalisation de l’économie au sein de la ville, afin d’entraîner un développement régénératif et assurer une résilience. A partir d’un questionnaire, d’entretiens et d’une observation participante, cet article envisage d’interroger les conséquences en termes sociales et spatiales de l’apparition de ce projet dans une petite ville touristique. Sont ainsi interrogés les modes de gouvernance de ce projet, notamment en termes de participation citoyenne, et les conséquences en termes de gentrification et d’oppositions de catégories sociales dans une distance spatiale proche.
