Il presente saggio intende offrire una testimonianza di alcuni momenti rilevanti del percorso evolutivo del pensiero di Massimo Montella come economista d’impresa, condividendo con il lettore una riflessione, avviata con lui dibattendo sul rapporto tra economia e cultura, che ha condotto a confrontarsi, in modo più ampio, sulle basi della struttura teorica delle discipline manageriali, spostando l’attenzione dagli aspetti che sono comunemente ritenuti l’essenza di una disciplina a quelli che, molto probabilmente, “mancano” alla sua piena comprensione. La riflessione è incentrata prima sul fondamento del management scientifico e delle teorie manageriali e si sofferma poi sulla struttura teorica della disciplina e sul metodo e sul paradigma in economia d’impresa, mettendo in luce aspetti che aiutano a comprendere anche il legame virtuoso tra economia e cultura e, quindi, tra management e beni culturali. Alla luce delle riflessioni proposte, ci si chiede se esiste la possibilità di recuperare quegli aspetti che nella trattazione ordinaria delle problematiche manageriali sono, di fatto, assenti. This essay intends to testify some relevant moments in the evolutionary path of Massimo Montella’s thought as a business economist, sharing with the reader a reflection, started with him by debating on the relationship between economy and culture, which led to a broader discussion on the theoretical structure of the managerial disciplines, shifting attention from what is commonly considered the essence of a discipline to what, most likely, is “lacking” in its full understanding. The reflection focuses first on the foundation of scientific management and management theories and then the theoretical structure of the discipline and the method and paradigm in business economics, highlighting aspects that also help to understand the virtuous link between economy and culture and, therefore, between management and cultural heritage.
