403Connected Autonomous Vehicles (or CAV’s) are an area of Robotics which is expected to bring with it a wide array of positive effects to society. To achieve these benefits the public’s mistrust for this new technology needs to be tackled by developers, producers, and legislators alike and an important element to winning this mistrust, other than ensuring that CAV’s are safe, is addressing user’s privacy concerns. While in recent years the number of laws on the subject of privacy and data protection has significantly increased, little has been done to address CAV’s specific privacy issues. We wish to underline the importance of implementing Privacy by Design and anonymization techniques in CAV’s in a way that takes the cultural and legal differences concerning privacy interests in proper consideration to effectively pave the way towards a global, and not local, mobility revolution
