Following the most recent debate about the transition from war to peace, the essay focuses on the activity of the International Institute for Middle Classes, aimed at protecting middle classes in the aftermath of the Second World War. In particular, through a comparative international view, the paper outlines protagonists, forms of protection and definitions of European middle classes developed in the Institute between the end of the Forties and the beginning of the Fifties
