FIGHT AGAINST ILLICIT TRAFFICKING OFMIGRANTS VERSUS THE STATUTE OF REFUGEES: EVOLUTION OF THE ACTION OF THE EUROPEAN UNION IN THE MEDITERRANEAN Moving from the conclusions adopted during the European Council of 23 April 2015, this article analyses the recent policies of the European Union on the fight against the illegal trafficking of migrants from the Mediterranean region and their compliance with the Refugees. The author underlines that such policies are focused on four main pillars: strengthening the presence at sea, with the reinforcement of The operations of the European Union Triton and Poseidon, The fight against Trafficking of migrants, the prevention illegal migration flows, with measures focusing on cooperation with third countries and with an explicit reference to Turkey because of the Situation in Syria and Iraq and also the intensification of the return and Readmission agreements with third countries, the strengthening of solidarity and internal responsibility. After a deep examination of the principal aspects of migration flaws in the Mediterranean and the most important provisions adopted, the author stresses the importance to make more effective the European policies, particularly regarding the protection of fundamental rights and refugees (Abstract by the editorial staff)
