INTERNATIONAL DIMENSION OF WILDLIFE TRAFFICKING: SOME NEW DEVELOPMENT The paper explores recent developments in cooperative and normative international practice on countering wildlife poaching and trafficking. Besides illustrating some cooperative initiatives recently undertaken at both international and regional level by States, the paper first analyses and discusses the content and legal relevance of the resolutions adopted, inter alia, by the UN Environmental Assembly of UNEP and by the UN General Assembly. Second, it investigates some significant new initiatives undertaken by the UN Security Council with a view to cutting the dangerous ‘ties’ wildlife trafficking shows with armed conflicts, terrorism and illicit arms trade. It emerges from the practice examined a rising international relevance of wildlife trafficking, not only as a fuelling factor of armed conflicts but also as a multilevel threat to ‘human security’.
