This paper moves from the theoretic individuation of the relational dimensions of social cooperatives according to their social function consisting on the cure of social needs through the implementation of “proximity services”. The aim is to obtain some social indexes representing the most important cooperatives’ dimensions. Those relational indexes will be obtained through the application of some social network instruments. More precisely each cooperative will be considered as the central node of an ego-centric network in order to evaluate the capacity to initialize relations with other institutions or single persons. In fact, social cooperatives are enterprises aimed at the production of goods and services of social utility and are characterized by an high presence of trust relations and strong ethic motivations. They play a key role of intermediation between economic private and public institutions and social community. Social enterprises are able to satisfy the demand of social services better than public and private for profit institutions mainly for their capacity in the production and valorisation of social capital and for their productive and organizational level of innovation. Like other non profit organizations, social Cooperatives experience the trade-off between respecting moral values and maximizing members’ private benefit. Although, as many authors underline, social cooperatives are characterized by efficient inputs also defined “cooperative advantages”. In this sense, the effort of the present contribution is to provide the construction of specific indexes to measure the capacity of social cooperatives to use their advantages during the realization of their social activities.
