The chronicle of Hariulf is a fundamental source for the history of the early centuries of the Abbey of Saint-Riquier (situated in the French department of the Somme). Written in Latin at the end of the 11th century by one of the abbey’s monks, it tells the history of the abbey from its origins in the 7th century. The aim of this article is to present the main features of this chronicle and to explain the context in which it was written and the reasons why it was composed
