Throughout history, humans have had a complex relationship with the sea, one marked by both the latter daunting challenges and terrifying nature. Hagiography often looks at the sea as a compelling backdrop to depict humanity’s limitations, leading to the invocation of the divine, thus establishing an enduring link between the power of the sea and the otherworldly realm. This paper aims to analyse a crucial episode in book IV of Gregory the Great’s Dialogues, based on the stormy sea and the salvific presence of the Eucharist. The text is presented in a comparison between the critical edition of the Dialogues and their vulgarisation in ancient Sicilian written by Friar Minor Giovanni Campolo in the 14th century.
