The relationship between daily life and the pandemic is examined on the basis of the neighbourhood approach, which has led to the development of a lifestyle where urban spaces are designed to improve people’s living conditions in accordance with a cumulative knowledge of town planning and architecture. The impact of the pandemic on urban areas has highlighted the asymmetrical distribution of risks and its consequences on the social and housing conditions of the population. But it has also made us acknowledge the dynamics that have acted and continue to act in the extensive degradation of our country’s facilities that allow only low levels of quality of life. A new urban welfare, new institutional arrangements, public policies and adequate regulatory devices are needed to redevelop our facili-ties and urban areas in order to face the pandemic challenge and the conditions of uncertainty and risk associated with climate change. This mandatory change in government and public policies is also needed to reduce the gap between Italy and other European countries.
