60The Contra philosophos is a singular florilegium, a dialogue, consisting of long extracts from Augustine’s De civitate Dei. For Diethard Aschoff, the text editor, this text was written in Italy by a close associate of Cassiodorus. However, for other researchers, the text, followed by a Contra Iudaeos, was written during the 15 th century. In this article, we study how the author of the two florilegia used the Augustinian extracts in order to create his own work. It appears that it is a truly erudite work that offers some parallels with practices of the 14 th or 15 th century. The study of the organisation and the elaboration of the quotations invite us to confirm a low datation.
