28The article studies the different stands of Siricius and Anastasius with respect to Origen’s doctrine. Anastasius’ anti-Origenist attitude is mainly explained by the change of Theophilus’ mind. The close relationship between Rome and Alexandria is highlighted, together with the conflicts among the high standing Christians of Rome. Anastasius’ goal was to extend the influence of the Roman See, without committing himself on a doctrinal level. His second letter to the bishop of Milan, Venerius, was carefully written in order to obtain the consent that had not been achieved with the previous letter to Simplicianus.
