The paper is about the role of identity in degraded places as a means to regenerate ordinary landscapes.Proposing a literature review in the light of such an aim, and drawing upon principles and topics fromthe European Landscape Convention, the authors illustrate two case studies, both in Campania region, tohighlight how degraded or abandoned places can be regenerated by planners enmeshing landscape planning anddesign with a notion of identity both as long term cultural values and material culture.
