Today, it’s not easy to stop the urbanisation of cultivated soils in the urban regions. One know that it is easier to avoid the building of wooded areas which are generally protected bylaws. How to explain this difference? Is it possible that the same causes produce the same effects in the case of urban and cultivated areas? In the light of the landscape sciences, the article analyses the role of a modern myth of the tree and of the soil concerning the meaning of the cultivated landscapes in the urban regions.
