We cannot consider the concept of sustainability as a unambiguous concept, nor immediately understandable: the most important scientific publications and studies reveal that the terms «sustainability» and «sustainable development» are generally used as synonyms. From the bibliographical source analysis we can almost immediately perceive that the term «sustainability» (and, equally, «sustainable development») is overrated and overused. The goal of this paper is therefore to clarify the concept of sustainability, analysing the essential matters very closely connected to it (such as moral obligation, technology, cross-disciplinary methodology, etc.), focusing on those aspects which are useful for thinking back to such a fundamental concept.
