157This work tries to analyze the reach and the role of wines with designation of origin (DOCG; DOC) in Italy’s Major Retailing Trade. The study will start off with a short review of the contribution of designations of origin to the national offering and of their territorial relevance.
The analysis will then be integrated with a breakdown of wines with designation of origin into “Quality Segments”, i.e. price ranges that help estimate the product’s quality through the market value. Finally, focus will be made on the impact of the role of promotion in driving purchase behaviours and promoting sales.
