Commercial consultants in the realm of public affairs and interest intermediation are a new phenomenon in Italy. This article presents findings from a survey of consultants in public affairs. It is a preliminary study that explains the development of this new business after the 1990s, the growing professionalization of the sector and the lack of institutionalization. The article analyses the consultants, the services and the clients.
