The aim of the study was to verify on a sample of cross-examinations from a single case (Cusani criminal trial) the model of coerciveness of form of question both on length and typology of answers during hostile examinations in courtroom. 11 hours of videorecorded examinations were systematically observed and analysed by sequential analysis. Log-linear models show that: a) a range of contextual factors affects the use of questions and answers; b) the form of questions affects independently typology and length of answer. The influence on length follows the forecasts of the model (the more the question is closed-ended the more the answer is short), whereas the influence on typology of answer departs in many respects from the model.
