46While Borderline Cognitive Functioning, as currently defined in international literature, affects a substantial portion of the general poulation, it is not a DSM-IV diagnosis, only being considered as a contition possibly deserving clinical attention. However, several studies have shown its' relevance; borderline cognitive functioning is significantly present in clinical populations, especially in childhood and adolescence, thus justifying further, in-depth analysis of the problem. This paper reviews current literature for data supporting this issue, thereafter focusing on links between borderline cognitive functioning and psychopathology.
