Titolo Il pudore della ricchezza. Usura, lusso e filantropia nei Paesi Bassi durante il primo Seicento Periodico Filosofia politica Anno: 2003 - Volume: 17 - Fascicolo: 3 - Pagina iniziale: 467 - Pagina finale: 486
The essay maps the diffusion of capitalist instances in early seventeenth century Netherlands, in a context deeply marked by the austerity of calvinist morals and money loathing. The author therefore speaks of "wealth's decency" as a way of combining philantropy and the refusal of ostentatious luxury. Upon these features Pieter De la Court will later found his republican doctrine of good government.
