The idea of equality is a central one in Kant's works. Nevertheless, his political theory leans to the conclusions that are far from equalitarian - as Thomas Nagel has already pointed out. The notion of race is another difficult test for Kantian equality: Kant has been famously charged for embracing a controversial theory of races. This paper scrutinizes such an issue; there is a connection between Kant's ambiguous position on human races and some more theoretical aspects of his modern notion of equality.
