Ten years ago the United nations environment programme (Unep) adopted the Montevideo Programme for the development and review of international law (1981-1991) which had been formulated in Uruguay by a group of senior government officials expert in environmental law. The Programme aimed at identifying priority concentration areas for Unep's action in the field of environmental law at both the international (development of agreements and guidelines) and national (assistance to countries) level. In November 1991 at Unep's initiative another meeting of government officials was held with a view to revise and update the Montevideo Programme and consequently identify new areas for action in the next decade. The results of the November meeting are the object of this article.
