So far the United Kingdom has been protecting the legitimate expectations of individuals, arising from behaviours of public authorities, relating it to the principle of fairness. The Italian legal system has only recently been enhancing the protection of legitimate expectations beyond the withdrawal of administrative acts. Despite the differences between these two legal systems, there still are many similarities between them on this topic, as well as some evident critical issues.
