22This paper presents empirical results on matching process in the labour market in Marseilles (France). Using a sample of meetings, organized by the National Agency for Unemployment, between employers and workers we observe a selection among applicants on the basis of their level of education. The strength of this selection is the consequence of a channel effect caused by the poor quality of the screening performed by the agency. Employers appear also to discriminate against women, the youngest applicants, long term unemployed people and those of North-African extraction. These effects are alleviated when employers face a tension on the labour market.
