The essay explores the friendship that linked two women who played a significant role in the Venetian scene of the twentieth century. An affinity that stemmed from a path that was still new to women: access to university studies in the 1930s, teaching in high schools and, in Trincanato’s case, entering the world of the professions. The skills and talents of the two women led them to take on responsibilities and prestigious positions in a cultural world inhabited only by men. Their friendship supported them in this unprecedented path: it was not a feeling locked up in private but was visible on the public scene also because it was animated by love for Venice. This not only led to a reinterpretation of the city’s history, morphology and art in their scientific work, but also prompted them to become actively involved in the preservation of Venice in the Venetian section of Italia Nostra. They shared a civic passion and an effort to involve the entire citizenry so that it could take on the role of a conscious protagonist in the direction of urban planning policies.
