INTERNATIONAL INSTRUMENTS TO CONTRAST THE CONNECTION BETWEEN VALUABLE MINERAL RESOURCES AND ARMED CONFLICTS In the last few decades valuable mineral resources (diamonds, gold, tin, tantalum and tungsten) have fuelled a number of internal armed conflicts that have occurred especially in sub-Sarahan Africa. This article assesses the role played by international rules and standards in seeking first to stop the contribution provided by mineral resources to conflict financing and then to improve the governance of those resources in the post-conflict period
