Abstract: The growth of poverty rates among families and individuals during the last two decades (as a consequence of frequent economic crises) has stimulated growing attention for policies aimed at supporting household welfare. In a situation of scarcity and/or limitations of public interventions, new programs have been designed by private institutions and philanthropic foundations. In this paper, we evaluate the impact of a program aimed at supporting fragile individuals in different but related dimensions: work, ability to make ends meet, and housing conditions. The program, named Integro, was established in 2018 by Compagnia di San Paolo, one of the most important philanthropic institutions in Italy. In our research we use a randomized control trial in order to estimate the impact of the multifaceted program on several outcomes: work, management of expenses, housing conditions, and caring responsibilities. We find that the impact of the program has been positive and significant on most dimensions. We also investigate what are the initial conditions that ensure that beneficiaries can gain the most from this type of intervention. Is this program suitable for everyone? We find that there is a minimum standard of socio-emotional stability necessary for the participant to obtain the benefits.
