More than a scholar has recently traced a connection between George Orwell’s political thought, mostly in the 1940’s, and post-truth, polarization, fake news and alike phenomena. But none has truly inquired his ideas and wondered how much his legacy still endures. In this short note, inspired by the recent publication of an engaging collection of Orwell’s writings on propaganda politics, I will try to sketch a provisional answer through a systematic study focused on both his closeness with contemporary dilemmas and the most relevant differences that mark present-day debates.
