The relationship between Croce and American liberalism is one of the least tackled issues within the studies about the relations between the Italian philosopher and American culture. This essay presents a first exploration of the issue, by dealing with both the «factual question» of the actual relationships between Croce and the milieu of American liberalism and the «theorical question» of the comparison between Croce's and Dewey's liberalism, who, in the same years, were rethinking the liberal tradition critically.
